Keynote Speakers

GORD MACKINTOSH served twenty-three years as a Member of the Manitoba Legislature, including seventeen as a Minister – notably as Attorney General, Family Services Minister, and Minister of Conservation and Water Stewardship. In 2016 he declined to seek re-election.

After politics, Gord released a light-hearted memoir, Stories Best Left Untold, and taught political science at the University of Winnipeg for six years. He is now a Senior Advisor with Counsel Public Affairs helping clients with government relations, and is a travel humourist with popular monthly columns in the Winnipeg Free Press.

MELANIE GAGNON, Project Director, and CESAR CRUZ CAZARES, Architect and Design Lead with Republic Architecture Inc. They will provide an insightful overview of the extensive restoration work at Kennedy House, a cherished heritage site in our region. With much of the project set to conclude this year, their presentation will highlight Republic’s commitment to heritage conservation and the careful approach taken to preserve the building.

Kennedy House stands as one of premier heritage landmarks in Red River North, known for its historical significance and its time as a beloved summer tea house. Unfortunately, due to structural concerns the house closed its doors in 2015. In response, Red River North Tourism took action, forming the Kennedy House Renewal Committee to advocate for its restoration. Since then, the committee has been actively collaborating with the provincial government to preserve and revitalize this important piece of our region’s history.
