St. Andrews on-the-Red

Anglican Church

Step into history at St. Andrew's on the Red Anglican Church, the oldest stone church in Western Canada still serving as an active parish. Built between 1845 and 1849, this stunning example of Gothic Revival architecture was designed by Archdeacon William Cockran, a key figure in the Red River Settlement. The intricate stonework, crafted by master mason Duncan McRae, stands as a testament to the craftsmanship of Manitoba's early settlers.

The graveyard serves as the final resting place for many prominent figures of the Red River settlement, including Archdeacon Cockran, educator Matilda Davis, and Captain William Kennedy, a fur trader, politician, and historian. Visitors are welcome to explore the grounds and discover the legacy of those who shaped Manitoba’s past—just remember to be respectful.
