Gardens

In the City of Selkirk the Society maintains two beautiful gardens: the Main Street Perennial Garden located on Main St. at Shultz Ave. and Red Feather Farm Memorial Garden located on Edstan Place just off Eveline toward the Red River.

Environmental Projects

SDHS has sponsored projects in schools on Monarch butterflies and promoted non invasive milkweed plants through our plant sales. In 2024 and continuing in 2025, we initiated a tree planting project whereby members could purchase a tree of their choice and receive a partial refund of the cost. This environmental initiative has added to the local tree canopy and benefitted not only members, but the community at large. For 2025, SDHS will also be promoting butterfly garden plants to aid the broader butterfly population in Manitoba.

Membership

The SDHS currently has about 90 members. While the founding members were primarily from the City of Selkirk, now only about 20% of members now reside in Selkirk, with the majority coming from further afield: St. Andrews, Lockport, St. Clements, East Selkirk, North Winnipeg, Cooks Creek, Oakbank, Dugald, and the Interlake.
