Meet the Artists & Authors

  • Greg Fritz

    Greg is an award-winning stone carver who began his craft 21 years ago. Continuing the traditional ways of stone carving, he uses only hand tools. Greg has always felt naturally connected to traditional Indigenous themes and styles. Discovering his Cree heritage late in life has helped to inspire and solidify his love of carving stone. The raw soapstone he prefers are all “off cuts” where every piece of stone is already an odd or unique shape.

  • Gary Foidart

    Gary is a self taught Metis artist who has been carving for over 35 years. His work has slowly evolved from realism to stylistic and recently he has been making small furniture as well as chainsaw carvings.

  • Heather Dawson

    .Heather Dawson’s stained glass art is nestled between realism and whimsy, rediscover colour and invite fun into your space. Passionate about sharing the process, Heather has worked with glass for nearly 20 years. Engaging curious souls and sparking a fire of creativity in others is a driving force in her arts practice.

  • Barb Hoffman

    Barb Hoffmann is a fine artist whose love of nature and family connection is evident in her photo-realistic graphite drawings and vibrant acrylic and watercolor paintings. Art class in school was always a favorite, and where she was introduced to oil painting. Learning by doing is Barb's method, adding acrylics seven years ago, and most recently, watercolors. Other creative endeavors include cake decorating and card making. Barb has work in private collections across Canada.

  • Brenda Flett

    Brenda Flett, owner of Dragonfly Quilting Services in Selkirk, Manitoba. I believe my interest in quilting began when my grandmother gave me a quilt as a gift. It has become a big part of my life–It lived in our car and attended all family picnics, babies slept and played on it, and it gave warmth around a campfire many times. That beginning has led me to today, with me having a great love of fabrics, creating and quilting for myself and others from my studio at home.

  • Sandra Terin

    My name is Sandra and I love to paint. After several years working in finance and accounting I decided to do something less stressful. I enjoy acrylic paint, paint pens and some watercolour. The designs I create are always colourful and fun, as I choose to see the brighter side of things. I paint on canvas, art paper, Kraft greeting cards and more. I am always trying new things and always learning.

  • Maureen Winnicki Lyons

    Maureen Winnicki Lyons, founder of Wool Mountain, quietly subverts the whirlwind age in which we live with 20 years of experience in handmade slow-living through the arts and crafts movement in Manitoba. Through MWLminiMakers, Maureen offers skill-based workshops, and the materials to do it via Wool Mountain including 200+ breeds of wool starting with local breeds sourced first.

  • Patti Simko

    Patti Simko is an artist from Lockport, Manitoba. While Patti’s main medium is acrylic, she is also known to create watercolour paintings and mixed media pieces. Patti’s pieces are distinctive by her use of rich, deep colours. From landscapes to airplanes; florals to abstract realism - Patti is always searching for new and interesting subject matters.

  • Lizanne Laurin

    Lizanne Laurin is a Metis artist living in the Interlake area. As an award winning hairstylist and educator. Lizanne first expressed her art in hair shows and hair competitions, where she became nationally know for her collections. She owns L2 Studio in Selkirk where she continues to provide hair services as well as photography and where she does her art.

  • Mary Louise Chown

    Mary Louise Chown has told stories around the world, including the Winnipeg Folk Festival, and taught storytelling at all levels. She now lives on a farm on the beautiful Whitemouth River, where she keeps bees and laying hens. She tells tales that connect the worlds of ordinary and extra-ordinary experience, with an emphasis on women if folktales and in local history.

Meet the Musicians

  • Doug McArthur

    Doug McArthur is a seasoned singer, songwriter, and frontman with over 20 years of experience in the Winnipeg music scene. Known for his powerful voice, Doug has captivated audiences through his dynamic performances with bands Broken Halo and Soapbox, and has written and released two albums and one EP, and toured Western Canada, playing headlining shows and festivals. His band Broken Halo won the Power 97 Class of 2010 with their single Rooftops.

  • Kiara Nathanial

    KIARA (Kiara Nathaniel) is a Winnipeg based composer, pianist, producer, and singer songwriter. She holds a B.Mus in Piano Performance from the University of Manitoba, and is currently in the process of completing her Master's Degree in Composition. Kiara creates a variety of music, ranging from contemporary classical to alt-pop. Her music is often inspired by nature and personal experience. She released her self-produced debut EP "Indigo Sky" in June 2022, which is available on bandcamp for streaming and to purchase.

  • Fuller Hull

    Fuller Hull is a songwriter for the “second chancers”. His second album is right around the corner, and it blends classic country and modern folk music into songs about bad decisions and good memories. With resonant acoustic guitars, harmonica cries and wails, mandolin spars, rickety banjos, and the occasional grace of pedal steel and churning telecaster, his new music promises songs that will drive you, lift you, and take you somewhere else.

  • Kendra & Mitch Obach

    Mitch and Kendra Obach have been playing music together for over 20 years. They have performed in a wide variety of settings from coffeehouses to musical theatre and choir to rock shows. They founded the Interlake Players Traveling Musical Theatre Company in 2016, raising money for local charities while touring shows across the Interlake. They are active community members in the Selkirk area in music and more.

  • Four Tuned Cookies

    The Four Tuned Cookies were formed in 2006. Over the years they've performed cover tunes for a wide variety of audiences. The "Cookies" each have their own preference of musical styles—blues, rock, country, contemporary and folk. They blend their musical preferences together to produce a wide variety of musical entertainment for any audience.

  • Cohen Sieg

    Cohen Sieg is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and producer hailing from Sieg's Corner, MB. Sieg has been writing and performing for over half his life. Sieg is a folk/pop singer-songwriter who is known for playing love songs on his acoustic guitar, but is also a talented multi-instrumentalist playing a full band of instruments including bass, keyboard, saxophone, and percussion, to name a few.

  • Cameron Denby

    Cameron Denby is a Métis percussionist based in Winnipeg. He holds a Bachelor's Degree from the Desautels Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba, and a Professional Studies Diploma from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Cameron creates, directs, produces, and performs in collaborative percussion projects, working with emerging performers and composers to create unique concerts of new music.
