Join the St. Andrews-on-the-Red on September 29th at 11:15 a.m. as they take part in National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day.
This day will feature a meaningful liturgy and a heartfelt tribute to the Rev. Henry Budd, an extraordinary figure in our local history. Rev. Budd was ordained as a Deacon right here at St. Andrews on December 22, 1850, and later became the first Indigenous Anglican Priest in North America when ordained in The Pas, Manitoba, in July 1852. His remarkable translations of scriptural writings into Cree have left an enduring impact on communities.
Today, his legacy lives on at the Henry Budd Christian Training Centre in The Pas, dedicated to the ordination of Indigenous people. He passed away on April 2, 1875, and now rests in the churchyard at The Pas.
We warmly invite you to join us for this significant service as we honor his legacy and embrace this special day together.
