Circle of Friends | Ruth Christie + Andy Blicq

September 13 at 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Visit with long-time Selkirk resident, Ruth Christie a First Nation Elder, historian and educator.

Joining Ruth is Andy Blicq, award-winning television producer, writer, reporter and instructor at the Asper School for Theatre and Film in Winnipeg. These talented individuals have combined their efforts to share their knowledge of the poignant and tragic story of John Ramsay, Ruth’s great grandfather.

Ramsay was an Indigenous man credited with saving the lives of newcomer Icelanders to Gimli in 1875. Blicq, along with Huw Eirug, created a documentary of Ramsay’s story, told in part through a haunting song written and performed by Juno Award-winning Indigenous singer, William Prince.

This documentary is a key piece of an exhibit at the Gimli/New Iceland Museum.
